Defending the Ecuadorian Amazon and the rights of native peoples

We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to defending the rights of native peoples, to preserve their cultural identity, their ancestral territories, and the pursuit of a healthy environment. We condemn any activity that goes against the rights of indigenous peoples, acting under the Convention169 for Indigenous and Tribal Peoples from the International Labor Organization.
We organize awareness campaigns in order to impact and change policies going against Indigenous Peoples’ rights. Our scope of work is in Latin America.
We are registered as the “Asociación Amigos de la Amazonía” with the Ministry of Interior, in the list of NGOs for development affiliated with the Spanish International Cooperation Agency. AECI is in the Municipal Registry of Neighborhood Associations of Villaviciosa de Odon, Town Hall, Madrid Province and the Embassy of Ecuador in Madrid.
MISSION AND OBJECTIVES
- Design and develop cooperation and co development programs and projects aimed to Indigenous communities in Latin America.
- Help Indigenous Peoples to find their way towards a social, economic, cultural and Human Rights development.
- Develop activities in the field of preservation, conservation and sustainable use of natural resources of Amazon, with the objective to minimize the impact of petroleum, wood and mining which are exploiting the environment.
- Defend the land and the fragile ecosystem of the Amazonian region with sustainable projects.
Today we focus on safeguarding the cultural, social and economical identity of the Indigenous and Tribal Peoples of Latin America, in safeguarding the Shuar People, resident of the Ecuadorian Amazonian Forest. They are going through a period of cultural decadency and destruction of their environment, threatening their survival in a near future.
